  • How much liability insurance is enough?
    admin08-01-2016

This is a question we get every day. It is important to understand that insurance is a risk financing tool (you are financing, or paying, for a certain limit of coverage). Once the limit you’ve purchased is exhausted the person you injured may legally pursue your personal assets (home equity, retirement accounts, savings, and in some cases your future earnings). Higher limits of liability coverage are a lot more affordable than you may think. For example, you may be able to double your liability coverage for as little as $30 per year. Why? Because claims always pay the first $1 of a loss but less often reach the higher limits of $500,000, $1,000,000, etc. The technical explanation is that the statistical probability of loss decreases at higher limits, so companies charge less for those higher limits. So, the answer to the question of how much liability coverage is enough comes down to an analysis of your assets, your future income potential, your overall risk scenario, and your risk tolerance. We’d be happy to walk you through this process so that you can make the decision that is right for you..

  • What is a Tort and why should I limit it?
    admin08-01-2016

A Tort is a legal wrong. In PA, you have the ability to choose Full Tort or Limited Tort. In simple terms, Limited Tort limits your ability to sue for punitive damages in a minor loss. Conversely, Full Tort allows you to sue for punitive damages in a minor loss. If you purchase Limited Tort and are involved in a major accident you may pursue punitive damages. It is important to understand the definition of punitive damages, major loss, minor loss, etc. For information from the PA Department of Insurance on this subject click here.

  • If I have a property loss, can I choose who does the repair work?
    admin08-01-2016

The short answer is Yes; you will have the ability to choose your own contractor, body shop, etc. However, the company will not pay more than the average cost to repair/replace. It is always wise to seek more than one competitive bid and important to work with your adjuster to make certain everyone is on the same page. Vehicle valuations

  • Is business auto more expensive than personal auto?
    admin08-01-2016

In some cases a business auto policy can cost less than a personal auto policy. Contact us to discuss your specific needs

  • Should I classify my workers as employees or independent contractors?
    admin08-01-2016

This is a questions we are asked on a consistent basis. The IRS has published a form that helps you make this determination. You can access this form from our Risk Management Tools. If you are a contractor operating in PA, you are subject to the provisions of Act 72. You may access this form under our Helpful Tools. Please contact us to learn more.

  • Why should I call Covenant (and not the State) for Workers Compensation?
    admin08-01-2016

Coverage for Workers Compensation is all the same, but our pricing can be MUCH LOWER! If you are insured through the State Workers Compensation Program you should contact us for a pricing comparison.

  • I just had a claim...will my premiums go up?
    admin08-01-2016

That depends upon what type of claim you had, how many claims you’ve had in the recent past, and how much was paid out on these previous claims. It is always advisable to call and talk with us before a small claim is filed. Always remember that insurance is not a maintenance policy… it should be generally structured to pay larger claims.

  • How do I know I'm getting the best deal on insurance?
    admin08-01-2016

This is a tough question, because there are so many details to consider. Pricing is an important factor, but the lowest price game is truly misleading. I could almost guarantee that we could save everyone money, but what would you be getting should a loss occur… that is the real question.

On the rare occasion a client reports they got a cheaper price somewhere else, we often learn the quote received offered significantly less coverage. You can purchase too much (or too little) insurance…the key is to obtain what is right for you! Just like anything else, when an insurance “deal” comes along that sounds too good to be true, it usually is. Our agency is dedicated to taking the time to understand your needs, educate you on coverages available, provide specific recommendations, and will work diligently to earn your business. Always keep in mind Covenant is significantly different than a “Captive Agent”. Captive Agents work for one specific company. At Covenant, We Work For YOU!

  • Should I file my claim with Covenant or directly with the insurance company?
    admin08-01-2016

You should always strive to speak with us; particularly in the event of a small property claim. However, you may always file your claim directly with the insurance company if you so desire. To file a claim now click here.

  • What is an Independent Agent?
    admin08-01-2016

An Independent Insurance Agent is independent of any specific company. In our case, Covenant Insurance represents several quality insurance companies, allowing us to provide you with multiple quotes giving you the best coverage available at the lowest possible cost. You will be amazed at how much we can save you over what those National-level captive (employee) agents can provide. (If you see your company’s ads on television then you need to call Covenant for a quote as you are probably paying way too much!)

Always keep in mind Covenant is significantly different than a “Captive Agent.” Captive Agents work for one specific company. At Covenant, We Work For YOU!

  • You are saving me a LOT of Money...Are you giving me a low-quality policy?
    admin08-01-2016

Absolutely NOT! Covenant provides excellent coverage to our clients. The answer to this lies in the companies we choose to work with. Did you know that the top 16  insurers spent about $5.3 billion in advertising dollars in 2011? Their policyholders pay those exorbitant advertising costs. Don’t be fooled into thinking that a company who has a slick marketing campaign is best…regardless of what they may say in their ads. Call Covenant today…you’ll be amazed at what we can do for you.

  • I need service on my existing policies; do I need to call you during office hours?

  • I need a document notarized... do you do that?
    admin08-01-2016

Yes. We have several notaries on staff, and do not charge for this service. (Yes…that means FREE)! In fact, you don’t have to be a client to obtain free Notary service. It is always advisable to call for an appointment to make sure a notary is available.

  • Do you know any good jokes?
    admin08-01-2016

Well our owner, Rob Stone, thinks he’s funny. However, some of us consider him quite silly. You’ll have to judge that for yourself!

  • I have a home business... do I need a business policy?
    admin08-01-2016

In many cases, you do not need to buy a separate policy for a home business. Contact us to discuss your specific scenario.

  • How much do you charge for a quote?
    admin08-01-2016

There is no charge for a quote at Covenant. Take the time to contact us…you’ll be glad you did! Call 717-292-2028 Today!

  • I want to get a quote from you; what should I do?
    admin08-01-2016

All you need to do is call or e-mail our office and we’ll be happy to provide a no-obligation… No Pressure quote. There is NEVER any hard sell at Covenant! Our goal is to always do what is best for you.

  • I want a quote, but don't want to provide personal information. Is that possible?
    admin08-01-2016

In order to provide you with an accurate quote we will need information such as your date of birth, drivers license number, address, Social Security number, etc. Without this information, we are only guessing at a rate (which could significantly differ from actual). As My Uncle Tom says, “If you don’t have time to do it right, when are you going to have time to do it over”? You owe it to yourself to give Covenant the information necessary to provide you with the most accurate proposal possible.

  • I'm nervous about providing my personal information. Is my information protected?
    admin08-01-2016

YES. At Covenant we take your privacy very seriously. Our agents are subject to strict qualifications and we take great care in securing your information. For more information on our Privacy Policy.

  • My car was stolen/totaled. How much is it worth?
    admin08-01-2016

The principle of insurance is indemnification – To put you back to where you were before the loss…no better and no worse. Questions involving value of an auto can become complex. Factors are specific to the year, make, and model of your particular auto and include considerations such as parts availability, repair costs, available cars in a similar condition, etc. There are online tools available to help you determine the value of your auto. Two of the most common are nada.com and edmunds.com.

  • My adjuster just gave me a settlement offer that seems low, what do I do?
    admin08-01-2016

While this type of scenario is rare, disagreements at loss time are generally due to a breakdown in communication. Covenant is your trusted advisor and will help you in every step of the process.

  • Can I get a policy that covers everything?
    admin08-01-2016

Unfortunately there is no policy available that will cover everything. For this reason it is important to work closely with your agent in setting up a program that will address your specific needs.

  • What is the difference between replacement cost and actual cash value?
    admin08-01-2016

The answer is depreciation. A simple example would be a television purchased three years ago for $500. Today you’d pay $50 for that used TV at a garage sale… that is the actual cash value. Conversely Replacement Cost is the cost to replace that TV new with like kind and quality.

  • What discounts are available to me?
    admin08-01-2016

There are multiple discounts available to both personal lines and business clients. We’ll work hard to make certain you’ll get every possible discount you deserve.

Our agency is dedicated to taking the time to understand your needs, educate you on coverages available, provide specific recommendations, and will work diligently to earn your business.

  • Why should I choose Covenant?
    admin08-01-2016

Every agent says you should choose them because they offer low rates and excellent service. Honestly, these aren’t reasons to choose an agent…these are simply the minimum qualifications to even be considered for the job. Our promise is to build a strong relationship through exceptional service, combined with a needs-based approach that addresses the risks you face on a daily basis. Covenant works for you!

  • Does Covenant Insurance have a Mascot?
    admin08-01-2016

Nope… we leave the cartoons, fancy jingles, and TV Star endorsements to others. Those cost a LOT of money…money we choose to pass on to you in the form of better coverage and lower premiums!

  • I own a business that uses tools in the field. Can these be insured at Replacement Cost?
    admin08-01-2016

In most cases, the answer is yes. We’ll need to understand what tools and equipment you have in the field. There are three primary types: Tools – General hand tools – These are the highest rate. Non-mobile equipment – tools such as generators, air compressors, welders, or other larger items. Mobile Equipment – Trenchers, backhoes, skid steers, bobcats, etc. Please give us a call for a quote on these items. We’ll need an itemized list, including values, to give you a proposal on replacement cost.

  • I'm just starting a business, can you insure me?
    admin08-01-2016

Oh yes, we work with startups quite frequently. You’ll find Covenant to be a true partner in business, not just an insurance agent. Call us today!

  • If I buy a new car do I need to call you before I pick it up?
    admin08-01-2016

Most policies provide automatic coverage for newly acquired autos. However, these coverages often only provide coverages you have on existing autos. (If you own liability only, you only have liability coverage provided automatically). We strongly advise you to call and talk to an agent before you get serious about buying your next vehicle so that no questions remain. You should note that, if you make a deal to buy a car, just call Covenant with the name of the salesman. We’ll happily reach out to them providing the necessary information on your behalf making the insurance part easy for you.

  • Why won’t Covenant take the mortgagee change request from the bank?
    admin08-01-2016

Frankly, we are inundated with banks who request to be added as mortgagee in anticipation of a refinance deal (that never comes to fruition). At Covenant, we take our marching orders from you and not directly from the banks. This assures an overtly-zealous loan officer cannot inappropriately endorse your policy. While sometimes it can be inconvenient to call someone else, your call to us with your approval to honor the banks request will greatly speed up the process. In summary, you own the policy and Covenant values your personal information. We simply would be doing you a disservice by making changes to any of your policies without your personal approval.

  • Can I pay my bill online?
    admin08-01-2016

Yes, click here for more information.

  • I have an emergency and need to speak with Covenant after hours. What do I do?
    admin08-01-2016

In the event of an emergency only, you may contact our agency owner, Rob Stone, at 717-891-0043. He will do his best to answer. If you get his voice mail please leave your name, return phone number, and alternate number if available. Include a summary of the emergency.

If Police, Fire, or Medical services are needed please first dial 911.

  • I'm thinking about adding a driver for my business. Is there any way to verify his driving record?
    admin08-01-2016

Driving and Criminal Records are easily obtainable by clicking here.

  • My child wants to put the car in their name. Is that wise?
    admin08-01-2016

This is a question fraught with peril. Yes, it can be done, but it isn’t something we generally recommend. Policies written specifically for young drivers are generally higher. If the child is responsible and maintains a positive risk profile, we would generally suggest they remain on the family auto until they are out of school. If they are truly out of the house and on their own then yes, separate policies may be best.

  • Is life insurance expensive?
    admin08-01-2016

That is a great question…the answer lies in what type of policy you are looking at. Term Policies are for a term of time and generally provide the lowest cost products out there. A different type of policy, Guaranteed Universal Life, or Guaranteed Whole Life can actually have a much lower cost of insurance, but they do so by developing cash values that help pay the mortality load of the life plan. Three uses would be to transfer assets from one generation to another avoiding probate, a business owner desiring to build cash value in a policy that would survive the business, or for a young child who could enter a 20 pay guaranteed whole life policy that is fully paid in 20 years, (that is a policy you are purchasing for your grandchildren). Call our life specialist today to figure out what would be best for you.

  • Does Covenant offer Bonds?
    admin08-01-2016

  • Can you insure our jewelry/guns/arts/antiques?
    admin08-01-2016

Yes, we most certainly can. We’ll need to know their approximate values, description, how they are used, and where they are kept. Give us a call to discuss your options.

  • Should I schedule my jewelry (and is it expensive to do so) ?
    admin08-01-2016

Yes, you most certainly should. We’ll need to know the approximate values, description, and where they are kept.

Scheduling your jewelry is advantageous for two reasons:

    1. Coverage is expanded to include mysterious disappearance (an example would be a stone falling out of a loose setting).
    2. The value of the item is covered for the stated value with no theft limit. Companies generally require we provide current appraisals on any item over $7,500 in value. Appraisals must be dated within the past 24 months.

Give us a call to discuss your options.

  • Can you insure rental properties?
    admin08-01-2016

    admin08-01-2016

Thank you for your service. Yes, most all preferred policies provide coverage for your service when acting on behalf of a non-profit. Keep in mind if you hold a professional license, such as attorney, physician, accountant, etc, you hold coverage for professional liability in these instances.  Contact us for more information.

  • Do I have coverage for sewer and drain back-up in my basement?
    admin08-01-2016

Most homeowners policies do offer an endorsement that provides coverage for sewer and drain backup. In order for coverage to apply, you need to have a sump pump, well, or a drain, and you would need to purchase this endorsement from the insurance company. Please contact us if you’d like to discuss this coverage.

  • I want to change to Covenant, but am uncomfortable telling my current agent. Can you help?
    admin08-01-2016

We certainly understand that making a change in agents can be stressful, especially if you have been with your prior carrier for many years. Covenant can easily process the paperwork necessary for you to cancel existing coverage without you ever having to call your agent.

  • Do you offer payment plans?
    admin08-01-2016

Yes, Covenant does offer payment plans on nearly all policy types. In fact, we may be able to place all of your policies on one invoice, if that is your desire. Please contact us for more information.
